You should be using your Facebook Page Cover to drive traffic to your website or product page!
Can you believe it is nearly the end of January 2014??? I have been busy making changes to my website and other places where my brand resides so if things look a little unfamiliar, have no fear, you’ve landed on the right place and I’m not done yet!
Now to the matter at hand.
In an earlier article, I told you that Facebook had finally seen the light and loosened the restrictions it had previously placed on the content that could be displayed on a cover image. This was great news and many page owners jumped at the chance to add more sales content to their cover image.
This is clearly a great idea. However, I noticed that many page owners failed to maximize the opportunity to include a Call To Action in the most visible place on their Facebook page. And, considering that you literally have a blank canvas to work with, why would you not do it? Mostly I suspect because it simply did not cross your mind and it is not an obvious option.
While I must confess it has taken me a much longer time to implement this “trick” on all of my own pages, I have been converting client pages to take advantage of this huge opportunity. Here is my latest converted Facebook page cover, with a clear call to action.
How does it work you ask?
The “trick” is in the description. You know that any image on Facebook when clicked, has its own unique “page” that can include a description of unlimited length and, currently, there are no known restrictions on the insertion of links. So, when you upload your cover image with a call to action that includes the instruction to “click”, your description of that image will become visible, including any links you add. Here is a copy of one of the headers I use on one of my Facebook pages:
To see this in action, head on over to one of my facebook pages and check it out then let me know what you think.
To your online success!
