As another week comes to a close, I find myself wondering “what happened to the rest of the week? Where did the time go?”
I had a very productive week but to tell you truth, looking back, I am not sure I remember from one day to the next what or when anything took place! Good news is that I actually have something to show so at least what seems like lost time was not wasted time!
I spent a part of the week working with two new clients, tweaking some business things and, working on a new product. I am getting close to rolling out my “Get Connected™ Video Series” For Social Media Beginners. Whooo!!!! I have been putting this together for the last several months and am excited as the release date approaches. You can learn more here.
This weeks feature article “Be The Buzz” – Using Influence To Grow Your Business takes a brief look at how you can use your influence to grow your brand.
Do you know someone who, no matter where she goes, immediately becomes the center of attraction and people hang onto her every word?
What about the people who you find yourself drawn to when you seek advice or information for one thing or another?
Well, in this fast paced world of technology with so much clutter, your best chance of survival, especially as a start up business, is to become “The Buzz”, or the center of influence in your target circle.
Although the traditional digital advertising for online business is still a good idea, one of the best and most overlooked is word of mouth! In this case, the mouth might not necessarily be attached to a humanoid, but a keyboard! As in, social media posts, email forwards, link sharing etc.
Because it is sometimes hard to know if online offers are genuine or worth the asking price, when anyone shares your information and makes the buzz about you, technically, it is a vote of confidence! (Unless of course the buzz is negative in nature!)
So, how can you capitalize on word of mouth marketing?
Here are three things you can do:
- Make yourself known in the circles that harbor you ideal clients – once you have identified what (not who) your ideal target is, hang out where they do (in person and online) as often as you can and make yourself visible by actively participating, offering support etc. Once you are in the circle, identify the influencers and become connected.
- Position yourself as “the only choice” and not just another choice” – send the influencers useful info periodically (no spamming please), pick up the phone to check in (remember that great communication tool?), send a card on special occasions, use social networks to stay in touch etc. Just be sure to keep it real and avoid over selling. Remember, you are their to get to know about your target and for them to learn about and begin to trust you.
- Stay connected and when someone makes you “the buzz” reciprocate where you can and show appreciation in other ways – your interaction should not just be to market yourself, but to learn about your target. This will serve you well as you can offer more meaningful gestures that will guarantee they will continue spreading the word!
Remember, being “the Buzz” is good for your brand so give folks something to buzz about until you are the “only choice and not just another choice” (can you tell that I love that phrase??? :-))
To your online success!
