Unless you have not watched the news in three weeks, you have heard about the tragic shooting of Trayvon Martin here in Central Florida. This issue struck a nerve as my son has been a victim of racial profiling which thankfully did not end tragically. Here I am with a picture of my son, showing my support for this family, by wearing my hoodie as I headed out to the “Justice for Trayvon” rally in nearby Sanford Fl.
On another note, I learned this morning that the mother of the organizer of the rally, Rev Al Sharpton, had passed shortly before he was due to board a flight to come to Sanford. I thought for sure he would change his plans. Not so! He flew to Fl and as of this writing is on air participating in a pre-rally press conference. That my friends, is what I call commitment!
This weeks article “How Lack of Commitment Can Derail Your Online Business” takes a brief look at how easy it is to destroy your online brand when you fail to take the time to nurture.
Like everything else, your Online Business needs to be nurtured, if it is to survive over the long haul.
Have you ever visited a website where it is clear no attention has been paid there in a very long time?
Ever sign-up for something but never received what was promised?
Ever tried to obtain information that was so far outdated it was completely useless?
Ever tried to download an offering but the link did not work?
These are the signs of an online business owner, who lacks the commitment to nurture their brand and if this happens to you, you can kiss your followers or prospects goodbye! Everything you worked to put in place is lost.
I know. I know. We are all way too busy and too overworked. If you really believe that, then you need to stop wasting your time now and fold it in.
The simple truth is that a successful online business owner, even one who generates passive income must afford a consistent level of attention to the different areas of your online business to ensure it is sustainable. This is not only true because you need to keep your business current etc. but is it also true because of the evolving nature of the internet and what worked this morning, might suddenly no longer work because of a change, over which you have no control.
Just like a bricks and mortar store must add a floor polishing detail once a month to it’s daily cleaning schedule to get rid of the deeper scuff marks etc, you must be committed to making sure you are consistently reviewing, tweaking, updating etc. your online business and brand across the internet, to maintain and grow the level of success your business enjoys.
One way I recommend is to create a detailed check list of every aspect of your business that needs to be reviewed, then make a schedule of when you will attend to each item, and STICK TO IT! When you make yourself carry out tasks on a regular basis, it becomes easier to mange and gives you such a sense of accomplishment, you are motivated to continue.
Some items that you might include on your checklist:
- website upgrades (plugins, system updates etc.) every 2nd Thursday
- blog posts for fresh content – every Friday
- email list review – every Monday
- link checker – every Wednesday
- payments – every Saturday
- refunds/charge backs – every Saturday
- image updates – every 3rd Wednesday
- email review – 10 am and 4:00 pm daily
- downloads – every 4th Wednesday
- social media profiles – every Tuesday
and the list goes on……..
The point is, creating a list and putting it on a schedule (actually adding it to your calendar) will help you follow through and stay committed to your business goals.
Finally. You must have an AT ALL COSTS attitude! Translation, whatever it is that you are scheduled to do on a specific day/date, YOU WILL DO IT AT ALL COSTS. No excuses.
To your online success!
